By the Wye Glamping is shut until 2022. We have just finished a very thorough deep clean of the glampsite and zipped up our tents for the final time. What a year it’s been for everyone. Perhaps more than any other season, By the Wye really has provided an escape away from Zoom meetings and home-schooling and endless breaking news. It’s been a place for everyone to slow down and enjoy the simple things amongst nature. And haven’t we all realised just how important that is? With that in mind we’re now focused on 2022 and already looking forward to opening next spring.

Whilst this year has definitely had its challenges, the feedback we have had from our guests has kept our spirits up. We’ve loved hearing how safe people felt staying with us, able to properly relax and soak in the therapeutic benefits of walking in the woodlands, playing in the river and gazing up at the stars. Equally in a year distinctly lacking in fun, it’s been wonderful to enable our guests to laugh and spend time with family and friends in a socially-distanced and safe way. Hearing the sounds of children playing in the woodland drift up to our house along with the smell of smoke from the campfires brought us much joy.

Before we embark on a busy winter of site maintenance and planning for next season, we’re pausing to look back at our very best bits of 2021.

The families who came for holiday adventures

We know it’s a big decision where to spend your holiday time as a family. We believe that By the Wye offers something special, the chance to switch off from screens and escape the routine of everyday life and return to simple pleasures of long country walks, cooking outdoors and eating as a family and gazing up at the stars. It has been wonderful to see so many families enjoying quality time together this year and making use of all that we have to offer at By the Wye.

The hundreds of children who brought By the Wye to life

By the Wye glamping is a bit of a paradise for children, and nothing makes us happier than hearing whoops from the Adventure Playground or to see a gaggle of friends playing Pooh sticks in the Wye. We so loved organising the Easter egg hunt, Bushcraft sessions and Halloween Trails.

The Sunshine!

How lucky were we in Mid Wales this summer? More sunshine and dry days than we can remember. Whilst fair weather isn’t essential for glamping it definitely helps! Nothing beats long walks through the Brecon Beacons, swimming in the Wye and eating al fresco around the fire pit in the evening. And clear skies have meant more nights spent gazing up at the twinkling night sky of the Brecon Beacons Dark Sky Reserve.

Said hello to the social media community

We participated in Social Media properly this year. Thank you to all those who have engaged with us, tagged us in pictures or comments and shared their By the Wye memories. We love seeing how you enjoy By the Wye Glamping – plus it helps other people find us! If you aren’t yet following us, say hello and keep up to date with everything at By the Wye via our social media channels.

The wonderful, highly committed By the Wye team

By the Wye is the result of so many dedicated people all pulling together. From the cleaning staff who keep the tents spick and span, to the admin staff behind the scenes. From Dan personally showing guests how to work the log burners, to Dawn’s foraging knowledge and Steve’s local knowledge, it’s all a team effort. We are so delighted that this has been recognised not only by your glowing reviews, but by two major awards this year. We ended the season as the Welsh Tourism and Leisure Start-Up of the Year, and By the Wye Glamping was a finalist in the Powys Business Awards as a Start-Up Business Award. These awards really do mean the world to us!

And welcomed back more friendly faces than ever before

This year it was wonderful to welcome back so many familiar faces to By the Wye! There’s no greater honour than guests returning year-on-year, bringing with them new friends and growing families. Thank you! And we do hope to see you again next year.

We are so lucky to have all this beauty, space and fresh air on our doorstep and most of all, we love that we can share that sense of freedom with our guests who come to stay at By the Wye. We will continue to share pictures via our Instagram until we meet again next spring. Here’s to 2022… but first, a well-earned rest!
