A sanctuary in the canopy

Luxury Riverside Safari Tents in Hay-on-Wye

By the Wye offers a unique glamping accommodation experience nestled in ancient woodland beside the River Wye near Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales. Our elevated treetop safari tents combine the freedom of nature with the comforts of a boutique holiday, creating one of the most memorable riverside glamping holidays in the Brecon Beacons, Wales and the Welsh Borders.

Each treetop safari tent is pitched and ready for your arrival, allowing you to settle into woodland life without any setup or packing. Positioned on raised platforms in the trees, these tents offer peaceful views over the river, woodland floor and distant hills.

Luxury that treads lightly

At By the Wye, we blend rustic eco-friendly living with luxury glamping comforts. Our safari tents are designed to feel like a home under canvas, with thoughtful features that make your stay relaxed and comfortable:

  • Spacious safari tents elevated in the woodland canopy
  • Private en-suite bathrooms with hot running water, flushing toilets and power showers
  • Comfortable beds with luxury linen and soft Welsh blankets
  • Covered deck areas with seating and dining space
  • Fire pits or BBQ (varies by tent) for alfresco cooking and evenings outdoors
  • A choice of tents for couples, families or small groups

This blend of comfort and nature makes our glamping accommodation holiday ideal for those who want to enjoy the outdoors without giving up everyday conveniences.

A Nature-Led Glamping Holiday

Our off-grid glamping site is designed with sustainability and wildlife in mind. Powered in part by solar energy and set within mixed woodland, many areas of the site are left untouched to encourage native species and preserve the natural character of the place. This rich habitat supports owls, bats, badgers, newts, dormice and the occasional otter.

Because of this peaceful setting, we do not accept bookings for parties, stag or hen events, and we do not allow dogs on site. Our focus is on offering a quiet, restorative glamping experience for families, couples and small groups who want to enjoy nature without distraction.

Food During Your Glamping Stay

Simple food, local produce and the freedom to eat at your own pace

Food at By the Wye is designed to be simple, flexible and well suited to outdoor living. Each safari tent is equipped with space for preparing and enjoying meals, allowing guests to cook at their own pace and make the most of time outdoors.

Many guests choose to add one of our homemade food hampers to their glamping stay. These are prepared using carefully sourced local produce from Wales and Herefordshire and can be placed in your tent on arrival or during your stay. Hampers offer an easy way to settle in without the need to shop, while enjoying food that reflects the local area.

Hay-on-Wye is also within easy reach and offers a range of independent cafés, pubs and food shops. Whether you prefer cooking by the fire, eating out locally or a combination of both, By the Wye offers the freedom to choose what suits you best.

Food hampers must be ordered in advance and can be added at checkout or arranged before your arrival.

The Treehouse Cafe

Just a short walk from the safari tents, The onsite Treehouse Cafe is a relaxed riverside spot for coffee, homemade cakes and light lunches. Set among the trees beside the River Wye, it’s an easy place to start the day slowly or pause after a walk.

Accessibility Information

Accessible glamping accommodation

By the Wye is set within woodland beside the River Wye, and the natural landscape plays an important role in the character of the site. As a result, the terrain includes uneven ground, steps, slopes and raised decking, which may present challenges for some guests.

The safari tents are accessed via woodland paths and steps, and are positioned on elevated platforms. While we do our best to make the site as welcoming as possible, it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who require step-free access.

If you have specific accessibility requirements or would like to discuss whether the site is suitable for your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us before booking. We are always happy to talk through the layout of the site and individual tent locations to help you make an informed decision.
