Accessibility Guide for your adventure at By the Wye

We want to make everyone’s stay as enjoyable as possible, and are committed to providing suitable access for all our guests, whatever their individual needs. Please make our staff aware on booking. Level Access

There is ramped access to the reception/check-in area

The main entrance to each all-access tent has a level access with a ramp. The ramp is permanent.

There is level access from the tent entrance to:

  • Bedroom: Twin bedrooms
  • Bedroom: Double Bedroom
  • Lounge
  • Bathroom (possible ramped)
  • Kitchen Area
  • Decking Area

Site Access

There are stepped and sloping areas from the main entrance throughout the site

There is uneven ground throughout the wooded areas of the site and all car parking areas.

There are uneven areas and grassed ground down to the river

All the tents are on one level.

All staff have disability awareness and Next Generation Text training.

Travel by public transport

You can get to By the Wye by bus and train, and then on foot.

The nearest bus stop is in the town itself approximately 0.6km away.

The nearest train station is Hereford, where you can either get a bus – No T14, No 39, or taxi for your onward journey. The train station is 21 miles /35 km from Hay on wye.

Travel by taxi

You can get a taxi outside the train station, where you should be able to find a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking

We have a car park less than 50 metres from the main entrance to the site. All-access tents have their own car parking. All parking is free.

From the car park to the reception entrance, the access is sloped with an uneven surface.

The route is 1080mm wide, or more.

There is a dedicated parking space outside two of the tents with ample room for unloading and manoeuvring.

Arrival

From the street to the main entrance reception, there is a minimum gradient of 1:15 and the path is 1080mm wide or more.

Getting around inside

Your Canvas Cottage

All of the luxury tents have two bedrooms, further accommodation is in treetents.

Two of the tents are disabled friendly and will also accommodate dogs.

The interiors are open plan for the kitchen and seating areas with separate bedrooms, all on one level.

All of the canvas cottages have separate ensuite bathrooms with an on demand shower and a real flushing loo.

The interiors have solar powered lamps and natural daylight, and usb charging points.

All of our luxury tents are non-smoking.

We have non-allergic bedding upon request.

We can rearrange some of the furniture, to improve accessibility, please just ask.

We operate a Silent Night Policy throughout the site, please see the separate policy information.

Lighting around the site is very limited, nature friendly solar power and torches to keep our nocturnal friends happy.

We have emergency evacuation procedures for all visitors in the unlikely event of Flood or Fire.

Guest support

All staff have disability awareness training.

Staff are available 24 hours a day.

Guest information files in cabins give details of local services and emergency procedures.

Mobile phone reception is variable depending on your network. A phone is provided for emergency use in the reception area.
